MTV orders reality version of “The Breakfast Club” →
synecdoche: MTV has ordered a new series, “If You Really Knew Me,” that operates like a reality version of “The Breakfast Club.” The show will take five high school students through a so-called “Challenge Day,” a program aimed at breaking down the barriers dividing different social cliques. i’m starting to think MTV is creating shows just to piss me off. So…they’re making a...

I don't understand things and this is why I'm not...
I had a bond for $100 that I cashed after 20 years, because apparently it stopped accumulating interest at that point. Because the economy sucks, after 20 years all I got was $31 in interest. That didn’t seem very worthwhile on its own, but now I’m being taxed for $81 of it. $81 out of $131 leaves $50. So by loaning $100 to the government (I got a C in econ; that’s what bonds...

ponymalta: This is only okay on a bus with empty seats, and completely uncool when there are older people standing, like right now. Basic decency fail! This reminds me, yesterday I was on a packed bus in which people were crammed together standing at the front of the bus, and yet there were open seats. No one benefits from having seats open for no reason, especially when it’s that full....

Woman forces son to kill hampster over bad grades
Of course, of course, this happened in Georgia. When Lynn Middlebrooks Geter found that her 12-year-old son’s report card wasn’t to her liking, she didn’t offer to help him with homework or ask teachers for extra instruction. No, she decided something more drastic was in order… The 38-year-old mom from Warm Springs, Georgia decided the best way for her boy to learn was...

FACT:
sadydoyle: For some reason, I don’t want Neil Gaiman to be the dude who, post-apparently-reasonable-and-well-handled divorce from his (age-appropriate, I am thinking?) wife, got engaged to a much younger pop singer who makes my skin fucking crawl for any number of reasons, up to and including the fact that her albums are like the apotheosis of that attention-craving...

“we kick ‘em to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger”
– Um, is Mick Jagger actually a standard of attractiveness to 22 year olds? Young Mick Jagger was pretty attractive, but I would think our generation would be much more familiar with old Mick Jagger, who I’d really not be eager to hook up with. I do know a couple of guys who look rather a lot...
